        <p>Teaching sci-tech translation to technical university students should be based on the system of exercises proposed for developing translation competence comprising communicative, linguistic, intercultural, discourse, informational components. The strategy of its formation focuses on consistent use of scaffolding. This essay contains an overview of the notions of translation competence, its components, scaffolding and its stages.</p>
