The article deals with a new approach to teaching the French language-FOU (Français sur objectifs universitaires). This technique is designed for foreign students studying at French universities, and allows them to integrate into the educational, cultural, and social life of the University. The article determines basic needs of foreign-language-speaking students and purposes of the course relevant to them, and also types of educational tasks and exercises.
