This article discusses various concepts concerning the notion of picture of the world, types of pictures of the world, the relationship of language, culture and mentality. Factors affecting the formation of a language picture of the world are presented. Particular attention is paid to the influence of national character and national mentality on the formation of a language picture of the world. The role of vocabulary and grammar in the formation of the English language picture of the world is specially considered.
