The article is devoted to the XIth International conference "Languages and Cultures in Modern World", which was held in Paris in June 2014. It gives a review of the conference work, its plenary sessions, round table discussions and some parallel sessions. The conference themes are highlighted. The role of applied linguistics in different spheres of human activity is stressed. The author considers some important problems of Methods of Language Teaching and Linguistics, touched upon in the reports of Russian linguists.
