The article deals with the issue of the formation of sociocultural competence in the process of teaching Russian as a foreign language. The material of the training session on the topic «Honorary Citizens of St. Petersburg» demonstrated the importance of linguistic materials in the educational process, which forms a great interest among students to another culture and life of its representatives.
