The peculiarities of the transfer phenomenon in teaching French as a second foreign language

The article considers the phenomenon of transfer that occurs in the process of learning a second foreign language. This phenomenon can be either positive or negative - in the latter case interference takes place. In this article, the features of interference are investigated on three levels of the language’s linguistic system: phonetics, grammar, and vocabulary. On each level, the major forms, reasons and consequences of transfer are analyzed. Based on this research, the author concludes that the goal of the teacher is to analyze the similarities and differences in the systems of associated languages, which would allow them to predict the possible course of transfer.
