Abstract:

The article concerns the issues of teaching the Russian language to students from Turkmenistan, whose number is steadily growing at universities in the Russian Federation. The education of Turkmen students in Russian universities has its own specifics and causes a number of difficulties, primarily due to the fact that, unlike students from foreign countries, Turkmens have already studied Russian in their homeland. The work emphasizes that the ethnolinguistic characteristics of Turkmen students, as well as the difficulties of their academic adaptation in new conditions, are largely determined by the living and studying conditions in their home country, cultural and national characteristics, as well as the situation of the Russian language in Turkmenistan. The article focuses on the issue of identifying and analyzing the specific characteristics of Turkmen students in order to achieve high-quality language training for these students. In addition, the work draws attention to the search for effective methods of overcoming difficulties arising in the process of teaching the Russian language. The article presents the results of the conducted Turkmen students’ survey, as well as the results of the survey of teachers working with these students, in order to describe the social and linguistic portrait of the average student from Turkmenistan studying at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University at the pre-university preparation program. The results of the study made it possible to offer recommendations for working with Turkmen students and made it possible to select the types of tasks most contributing to the formation of the language competencies of Turkmen students.
