THE DEVELOPMENT OF TECHNICAL TRANSLATION SKILLS OF AVIATION UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Abstract. The technical translation skill is a core component of aviation students’ professional training. To perform professional duties effectively and efficiently, aviation professionals have to be able to deal with original technical aviation documents issued by International Civil Aviation Organization. To attain the desirable goals, the authors present the analysis of scientific literature and federal regulations governing quality control of technical aviation document translation.  Moreover, the authors carried out the pedagogical experiment in the groups of students majoring in aeronautical flight support within the framework of the discipline ‘Aviation English language’ at St. Petersburg State University of Civil Aviation. The authors describe the criteria for quality evaluation of technical translation based on the Federal State Educational Standard. Furthermore, the paper outlines technical translation skill components. In the paper, the authors present the set of exercises honing technical translation skills of aviation technical documents.
