The article is devoted to the analysis of contemporary articles, researching the issue of social networks. Upon the acquired results the author suggests potential ways of categorising the publications. The articles are also reviewed for the applicability in the area of pedagogy. The analysis permits to describe the main areas of potential research of social networks.
