Problems of translating transformed idioms

The article is based on literary examples from several European languages and focuses on principal cases of transforming idioms by writers to achieve an intended stylistic effect. As transformed idioms pose certain difficulties for a translator in terms of their identification and interpretation the author suggests some guidelines for translating these transformed idiomatic units to avoid the so called “translator’s idiomatic trap”.
