Nina V. Popova – Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Honorary Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation, has been working in higher education since 1981, with the experience of scientific and pedagogical work being 41 years.

 

Education

1980 – graduated from the Leningrad State University named after A.A. Zhdanov, Faculty of Philology, specialty - Germanic philologist, teacher of English language and literature;

1989 – defended Ph.D. dissertation in the specialty 10.01.05 – Literature of Western Europe, America and Australia;

1992 – master's degree from the University of Nottingham (Great Britain) in English Language in Literary Studies;

2012 – defended her doctoral dissertation in the specialty 13.00.08 (theory and methods of vocational education) on the subject "Interdisciplinary paradigm as the basis for building integrative students’ competencies at a multidisciplinary university (with the discipline "foreign language" as an example)”.

Academic title – Professor.

 

Work experience

1981 – currently working at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU);

1991 to 2012 – Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages;

2014 – present – Professor of the Graduate School of Linguodidactics and Translation at the Institute of Humanities, SPbPU.

 

Sphere of scientific interests

•   Interdisciplinary links in higher education;

•  linguodidactic aspects of teaching a foreign language, the use of digital technologies in the educational process;

•  didactic aspects of organizing students' independent work;

• theory of a professionally oriented new generation foreign language textbook;

•  translation aspects of teaching a foreign language;

•  stylistics of the English language.

N.V. Popova is the author of numerous works, including four monographs, chapters in three collective monographs, publications in international sources, including those indexed in the Scopus database, Web of Science, articles in journals included in the list recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission for publishing scientific research results.

Her Hirsch index in RSCI is 13, in Scopus it is 3.

Professor N.V. Popova is actively involved in conference activities, speaking at both domestic and international conferences. Theoretical research is reflected in a large number of educational publications, including more than 30 manuals, electronic didactic resources, teacher guidelines, etc.

N.V. Popova does a lot of work on the training and certification of young highly qualified personnel; 7 postgraduate students defended their theses under her supervision. Popova N.V. is the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the journal "Teaching Methodology  in Higher Education", a member of the editorial board of the journals "Bulletin of the Tambov University. A series of Humanities", "Man and Education", included in the list recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission.

 

Awards

Popova N.V. received the British Council award for studying in the UK (1991), has a certificate of honor from the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation (2002), the badge "Honorary Worker of Higher Professional Education". She is a laureate of the St. Petersburg government award for outstanding achievements in the field of higher and secondary vocational education in the nomination "Scientific achievements contributing to improving the quality of training specialists and highly qualified personnel" (2009), Veteran of Labour.
